About Me
I am a qualified teacher
I am a qualified Primary School teacher with classroom experience at KS1 and KS2. Although I retired from school teaching some years ago, I still love to keep in touch by volunteering my help in a Year 1 class at a local school.
I started tutoring in the mid-1980s in order to help my own children with the Eleven Plus test, and I have kept doing it for other children ever since. My emphasis to start with was just on the Eleven Plus, but I have broadened it more recently to include younger children and those whose aim is not a specific test. My experience covers two counties (Buckinghamshire and Dorset) and the whole range of teaching and testing regimes which have come and gone across forty years. If I haven’t seen it, it probably hasn’t been invented yet!
Parents will be keen to know that I hold an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Certificate, which they can inspect when they visit. They can also see a range of messages from parents of current and past pupils, extracts of which appear here:
I am married, with two grown-up children. We moved to Dorset in 2018 to be nearer our son and grandson. Away from tuition, I enjoy gardening and I am also keen on researching family history and on sewing – making and altering clothes and curtains. In fact, I do family history research and sewing for other people too, so just ask if you are interested!
